Has anyone else's Cat have seizures from Wormer overdose?

In all my years in my proffesion (9 years as a Abuse/neglect officer and shelter manager) I have never seen a cat have seizures from Worming medicine. I received a foster cat from some people that found her and her newborn kittens in there garage. They brought her straight to me. I noticed she seem lethargic at first. I ruled it as adjustment. About 4 hours later she went into violent seizures. I rushed her to the vet, and they could find NOTHING wrong. She was pretty healthy for being a stray. I thought even it could be from Anti-freeze but all that checked out. I called the people and they told me they wormed her with Hartz wormer. That they might have dosed her twice and maybe 3 times accidently (diffrent family members it was really unexplainable why they did it and too long a story) So thats the only thing I can think of. But she seems to be doing ok now. I am just suppose to watch her close and if she does it again she will have to have anti seize meds. the most explaination the vet could give me is a old neurological disorder or possible epilpsy. They have to do more work but since she has tiny kittens and they ruled all other things out they want her to be with them for now. She didnt show classic symptoms of epilpsy so it came as a shock and a suprise. Havent ever seen it before because of wormer, not THAT violent. She was thrashing around and vibrating her eyes were ticking back and forth so fast I couldnt see the pupils, and now shes fine sitting on my lap at the moment enjoying some loving and petting. Like it never ever happened. She even ate a whole bowl of food, and a couple snacks.

I have seen many cats have reactions and seizures for overdoses from over the counter flea medication. just yesterday we had a cat in the hospital that was given 3 dfferent HARTZ products for fleas and started to siezure. We place her on IV fluids to flush her system out and gave her valium for the seizures. (she was better in about 36 hours) I have seen many many times and most of the time it from a HARTZ product. ( I have seen a few cats die from an overdose). I do not trust them at all, they have had issues with their other products as well. I would NOT RECOMMED anyone to use any of those drugs. I personally only use products sold at my animal hospital because those are appoved by the FDA

How bad is an overdose of liquid wormer piperazine citrate?

I dosed my approx. 10 lb cat with a 1 teaspoon dose of the wormer. He has vomited a few times, and had diarheal, he has also become lethargic. I believe that I overdosed him on accident, now how do I fix him?

you cant fix him, he will have to metabolize it and if it doesnt kill him if can cause some neuralogical issues. Is there a cat wormer that removes more then one type of worms?

I have two 14 weeks old kittens, While cleaning thier litter box i noticed they have little white worms in thier poo. I wormed them with Tape worm stuff on tuesday the 9th. But i know they havent been wormed for anything else. I dont want to overdose them but can i mix differant kinds of wormer if they are for differant things? or maybe there is a wormer that covers more then one? thanks! Oh and ive had kittens before. My two right now have had thier shots, i thought they had been wormed til i looked at thier paperwork more closly and also found the worms. i Bought the tape worm stuff from the pets store its called Tape worm tabs. I gave them a half of the tablets.

Yes. It's called Drontal and you get it from the vet. OTC dewormers are ineffective and don't kill all worms. They are also dangerous. You need to take your kittens to the vet so they can be tested to find out what worms they have and be given appropriate treatment. They also need shots, flea treatment like Advantage, Frontline, or Revolution (no OTC stuff), and spayed/neutered. Having pets means sometimes having to pay the vet. Homemade vetting usually ends in disaster and can cost a fortune to repair the damage (if the cat survives).

I think my cat is reacting to an OD of wormer (piperizine).Vet wants $700 to treat, cant afford.What can I do?

I put wormer in food for all 3 of my cats. I think maybe this one ate some of the other cats food and got too much. It says on the package that muscle tremmors are a sign of overdose. He threw up after eating the food (2days ago) and started having "twitches" and seeming to loose his balance last night. I called my vet and she is away for the holiday. The emergency vet wants $700 to treat him, which I cannot afford. I feel AWFUL...like I poisoned my cat!!! Does anyone have any suggestions/information that might help? Thanks.

I'm not seeing a date on this, so I don't know how late I am in answering. However, the same thing happened to my cat. I brought him to a specialist and she said to give him a week for the toxics to work through his system. And they did and he's fine. He was just too sensitive to the toxins in the over-the-counter wormer. The specialist did say never use over-the-counter wormers for any of my cats. They are not regulated and have toxic ingredients in the.
